Do you have a project proposal for Dark Music Days?
The curatorial team welcomes project proposals for Dark Music Days 2026. The festival will take place on the 29rd-31th of January 2026.
Dark Music Days was founded in 1980 by the Icelandic Composers society as a platform for the performance of contemporary music. The focus of the festival is to perform and promote contemporary music with an emphasis on new works by composers and performers working and living in Iceland. The festival's partners include Iceland Symphony Orchestra, CAPUT and Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra, as well as others.
The festival emphasizes original creations and projects that appeal to a diverse audience. Projects displaying a diversity in terms of programming and artistic content are preferred as well as projects connected to Iceland or involving composers and performers living in Iceland.
All artists are free to submit ideas for the festival and ideas at any stage of development are welcome. Note, however, that larger and more expensive projects need to be co-financed with their own funds in order to be considered. The festival does not cover the travel costs or accommodation for artists traveling from abroad. The festival pays all performers a performance fee.
Proposals must be submitted by completing this electronic form.
The festival is in collaboration with the Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra, CAPUT, and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, and these groups have a regular place in the festival's program. Proposals for individual works for the CAPUT and Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra concerts at the upcoming festival can be submitted by filling out this form this form.
Dark Music Days does not gather proposals of works for the Iceland Symphony Orchestra but you can submit pieces for their consideration here.
The deadline for submission is midnight 15 APRIL 2025.
